My brother has Stage IV Lung Cancer. He was transferred to the CCU this afternoon. I am a hospice nurse. Doctors had not talked to my brother about the symptoms he was having and explaining the significance of what the symptoms actually meant. I explained with the awesome help of nurse Cody about his condition. Cody was so kind and empathetic with my brother. He went above the "bedside care nurse" and was open and honest with him. My brother decided he wanted the medication stopped tonight and wanted to be kept comfortable. It was difficult but he made the decision. My brother said there was one thing he wanted and that was to see his dog. Cody, RN, went WAY ABOVE the call of duty and called his manager and got permission to let my brother have his one last wish. When Cody left the room he had tears in his eyes and he was wiping his eyes.
My brother cried along with all of the family that was present. This is what the DAISY Award represents when a nurse makes a HUGE difference in a patient's life! He gave a patient their dying wish!
I have been a Hospice nurse for six years and I believe in total comfort at the end of life. Comfort comes in many forms. He provided my brothers with his final wish! God Bless him! I, along with my family, will never forget what Cody did! Cody's care the entire night was beyond exceptional! He held my brother's hand and even hugged him! He blessed my brother along with our family in his last hours of his life! Carle is blessed to have such an exceptional nurse!

This guy - what a pleasure to have him as my husband's nurse. So awesome. Went way beyond his duty. Great at his job. Coming and checking not just on my husband but all of us. Brought us drinks and snacks and set up with everyone and security to let our dog come up to see him. What a great thing to do for someone. Was definitely an angel for him. Made my husband's night alright. A nurse with tears in his eyes with such great compassion for his job! Blessed!
