Cody wanted to know what my husband's favorite music was, and every night he would play it for him, to which he would arouse and give thumbs up.
My sweet husband had been so sick for several weeks when the nurse had the opportunity to care for him for what seemed like some of the worst days of his illness. My husband was on the ventilator and unable to speak, however, he was actually still very alert. I was not allowed to visit due to Covid restrictions, but this nurse always made sure that I knew every detail regarding his care.
Each night when Cody came on shift, I would receive a text message stating, "Hey, this is Cody. I have your husband tonight and...(insert brief update) Please call me or text me if you need anything. We will be just chilling for the rest of the night." He was always so intentional about connecting with me and making sure I felt well informed and confident that my husband was in great hands.
Cody wanted to know what my husband's favorite music was, and every night he would play it for him, to which he would arouse and give thumbs up. My husband was unstable and very critical, and this nurse updated me frequently so that I would not be scared. Sometimes this was almost every hour. When I told Cody how nervous I was, he assured me that the goal was to get my husband back home to me, and when I thanked him for always being helpful he assured me that it was just as much his job to take care of me as well as my husband. I definitely would not have made it through those nights without him. This nurse is one that I will never forget because of how he treated not only my husband but also me.
