Nursing Education planned a computer orientation class with a local community nursing school. The computer online training was down for repairs and the usual person who offers personal training was not available. I sent out an e-mail for a nurse volunteer to come and teach the computer training class to our new nursing students. Colleen immediately responded to my call for help. She wanted to know in detail what she could teach that would help these students. So we reviewed the information. She promptly showed up the same day to teach the class right after work, on her own time. She maintained a good rapport with the students and made them feel welcome and comfortable.
Her communication and leadership skills served as a role model to the new students and the nursing instructor expressed her gratitude for Colleen’s positive and customer friendly attitude while sharing with the class. This class was successful because of Colleen’s dedication toward nursing. I believe that Colleen demonstrated exceptional customer service, communication skills and role modeled leadership.
