My mother is a patient in the nursing center at St. Joseph of the Pines. One of her nurses, Colleen Graham, is her favorite. In the year that my mother has been at the nursing center, her dementia has taken a hold and there are times when the staff find her to be difficult. That is everyone, but Colleen. No matter how angry or upset my mother got, Colleen would know exactly how to redirect her to another activity. The kindness and gentleness that she shows to my mother has also helped our family to better understand how to relate to my mom. Colleen always has time to talk with us when we visit. We rely on her expert advice on what my mother needs or wants. Colleen shows this level of care and concern for all her patients and their families. She demonstrates this concern by bringing in special food that brings a smile to everyone's faces. When professional medical personnel take this type of care, their patients will thrive.
