This nomination was written for Colleen McCarthy by a Co-Worker: It takes a special person to make such an imprint on a patient's life that the mom says, "you are not just our nurse, but you are more like our auntie." When this patient was transferred back to our unit from the ICU, his eyes lit up as he screamed Colleen's name from across the nurse's station. In fact, Colleen was the sole reason he was so excited to be transferred back downstairs. When the family recently got hard news, Colleen was there advocating for the mom and has continued to be there for the family every shift she worked. While this story is a testament to the kind of nurse and person Colleen is, it is just one of so many. In my time working with her, I have watched time and time again as Colleen has gone above and beyond and created the most incredible bonds with so many patients and families. Her passion, her determination, and her love for her patients are unmatched. She has dedicated over 19 years to CHONY, and her compassion never wavers. We are so lucky to have a nurse as incredible as Colleen at CHONY. She is one of my role models, and I know that I am a better person and nurse for knowing her. I think we all are. I cannot think of a single person more deserving of the DAISY Award.
