Colleen possesses excellent assessment skills and is able to care for the most complex Pediatric Hem/Onc patients on 4 Hope. Colleen runs the mock code team for her unit and educates her peers so the 4 Hope staff will be prepared to adequately handle a "Code Blue" situation should it arise.
Colleen is a role model on her unit. All of the staff on 4 Hope look up to Colleen and she serves as a mentor and Clinical Coach for all new nursing staff on the unit. Colleen also mentors nursing staff to pursue promotions through the STEPS clinical ladder and serves as the Co-Chair of the hospital STEPS board.
She is a team player and works well with all her peers and is frequently sought out by others to ask her clinical opinion and provide assistance to her fellow nurse colleagues.
Colleen has a huge heart for all the pediatric patients and families she cares for and goes above and beyond at all times. Colleen recently took care of an autistic child that would only eat chicken fries. Since the cafeteria does not have chicken fries she went on her own time to Target and purchased chicken fries for this patient with her own money. This is a small example of the many kind and generous ways Colleen makes things better for her patients.
Colleen is currently in graduate school and is currently working on an evidence based quality improvement project to roll out a tool that will assess for clinical deterioration in pediatric patients in order to best assess what is the most appropriate level of care for each individual pediatric patient.
She is bubbly and always has a smile on her face. Parents frequently mention Colleen on unit surveys and 4 Hope is lucky to have such an amazing nurse on their team!
