I would like to recognize Cong for the exceptional compassion and patient-centered care she demonstrated during a recent shift. A patient presented to the ED after sustaining an ankle dislocation at home. The patient was understandably upset because she had planned to paint her 6-year-old daughter’s nails before taking her to a birthday party, but her injury prevented her from doing so. The daughter was also very disappointed.
When the daughter arrived to visit, Cong took the initiative to paint her nails in the patient’s room. This small but incredibly meaningful gesture completely changed the atmosphere for the family. The patient, her husband, and especially the daughter were so appreciative of Cong’s kindness and willingness to go above and beyond during a stressful situation. The daughter was able to leave for the party smiling despite her mom being unable to attend.
Cong’s actions exemplified empathy, compassion, and the true spirit of nursing. She recognized an emotional need beyond the patient’s medical care and took the time to make a lasting positive impact on this family.
