Conner was able to recognize and respond quickly to a medical emergency with her critical thinking. Patient presented to the emergency department with left sided chest pain, numbness to the left arm, diaphoretic, and shortness of breath. Conner utilized her nursing knowledge to obtain an EKG even after being told by the nurse practitioner it was just indigestion. As Conner was attempting to obtain an EKG, the patient began to have apneic breathing. Conner's quick thinking allowed her to check for a pulse, immediately start compressions, and simultaneously call for further assistance to be able to get the patient to an appropriate setting to provide excellent care. Patient was eventually intubated with successful ROSC. Due to Conner's excellent work, she saved the patient’s life.
