A patient came to the unit to deliver her baby who would not be compatible with life. During this time, Connie was her nurse. She went above and beyond what the patient had in store for her birth plan. She stayed with the patient throughout her C-section and throughout her hospital stay during the day. She continued to provide excellent care of the patient and her family during this difficult time, one that should have been a happy time for this family. She took care of the baby and completed all things the mother wished for in regards to his care. Connie made molds, took footprints for the mother to remember the baby and worked with the patient's pastoral care. The patient put her complete trust in her nurse and even asked her to return to the unit on her scheduled day off, because she didn't know if she would be able to say goodbye without her at her side. Of course, Connie came in to help the patient through the final goodbye as the baby was discharged out of the hospital. The patient was so appreciative of her and all of her support in this very challenging time. Connie exemplified our Core Values and took pride in taking care of this patient. As a Labor and Delivery nurse, our goal is to always be able to unify a family as they welcome a new baby into their family. Sometimes we are unable to complete this, as the family has suffered an unimaginable loss, but for this family, Connie helped to ease this family through this very difficult time.
