My husband's grandfather had hip surgery. In the days following surgery he continued to decline ultimately having to be moved to CCU where Contesta took care of him. She took time to teach and explain aspects of his care in a way that his 83-year-old wife and family could understand. She spent time talking with him and our family and found a lot of commonality that they shared. One day she even pulled up a song that his wife shared with her was his favorite and sang to him to comfort him.
I am a nurse myself so, I understand how the normal day to day activities can weigh you down. Sometimes it feels like just getting the basic things accomplished is an unattainable goal. Contesta went above and beyond what is required of her. She remembered that she is not only taking care of the patient's physical needs, but his mental and emotional needs too. Contesta remembered that his 83-year-old wife, who has not been away from his side in over 60 years, was scared and in need of comfort too. Our family will always remember the care and compassion was shown to our family during this time. Contesta has truly made a difference and we were blessed to have her as his nurse.
