Coral was the first face I saw when I entered the Neuro ICU. This is because she sought me out, especially to prepare me before entering my son's room. My daughter-in-law called me early on Saturday morning. It was the call every parent dreads "[son] fainted and is in the ICU on a ventilator". They had only lived in Colorado for 2 months. I was in Sacramento, CA. I got there as soon as I could, terrified the whole trip. Coral was so kind and sweet. She gently told me about what to expect. My son had 11 different medications pumping into his veins, was lying prone with a swollen face, and had a breathing tube down his throat. She was in the room most of the night helping his nurse get him stabilized. She anticipated needs and was there for his nurse to brainstorm with. When I think of her, I think of someone who is ready and willing to do whatever is needed to produce a positive outcome. She made the worst day ever a lot less scary.
