My father was a patient about a year ago in the oncology unit. He was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer and admittedly it was a very stressful time in our lives. Although there were many, many nurses who took care of him, one nurse stood out. Her name is Coralou and we are extremely thankful for everything that she has done during my father's stay there. She was very patient and thorough and made sure that we were constantly updated with what was going on with my dad.
My dad was a quiet man, but he told us that Coralou sat down with him and listened to him as he talked about dealing with his illness - even pulled a chair and took her time though we know how busy nurses are. I wish I could go back and thank her personally for making an impact on my dad's life. We were not in the hospital 24/7 and having a nurse as compassionate as Coralou made my dad at ease and assured.
My dad has since passed and really our entire family is thankful to everyone who took care of him. I know nurses rarely get the recognition they deserve. Again, thank you to the staff who every day make an impact on patients and their families - us included. More power to all of you!
