Corey came in and greeted my father-in-law, who was having a health crisis and was nervous due to not seeking out healthcare for years. After my FIL explained why he was there, my FIL cracked a joke, as per his nature. Afterward, Corey made professional jokes that helped my FIL, even as he conveyed the seriousness of the situation. Similarly, he helped put my FIL at ease by deflecting the self-loathing my FIL was experiencing due to ignoring health care.

Because this was my FIL's first time in a decade seeking medical treatment, he did not know how to properly explain past medical history and forgot many things. Whenever he recalled a fact, my FIL would hit the call button, and Corey was gracious with the individual call bells for non-serious things that could contribute to my FIL's health. My FIL also complained idly about having dry skin, and Corey grabbed lotion and asked if my FIL would like some. After my FIL stated yes, Corey applied lotion to my FIL's legs and arms and explained the importance of such considering that he was there for edema.

Throughout the entire time, Corey used simple layman's terms to explain what he was doing, what he was assessing for, the procedures ordered, and the diagnosis/symptoms that were recorded. He also kept us updated on any information he knew, such as the amount of time until the next test and where the family could go during tests to meet our needs, and even informed us that our FIL would be admitted so we could arrange our schedule and prepare if needed. During the entire visit to the ER, Corey was smiling, checking in, and making jokes to put my FIL at ease, even when multiple traumas showed up, and it was evident that the ER had become busy/hectic.

Thank you, Corey, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
