Corey Gates has been a Godsend since the day we met her almost 10 years ago. Doing whatever she can to help provide me with resources, support groups, and answering any question I had about my oldest son's care...whether she was at work or at home. When my son went into sudden cardiac arrest, she was my first call once we got in the ambulance. Corey helped to calm me down and immediately went to work behind the scenes to contact everyone on my son’s team and start the process for getting him transferred to TCH once he was stabilized. Unfortunately, he never stabilized and he passed away just a few hours later. But Corey was there for every step of the way. She immediately got his cardiologist on the phone with the ER, doctor, and myself so he could explain to me what happened. She supported me in a way I cannot explain. She drove 3+ hrs to be there for my son’s funeral. She has called to check on me numerous times. Corey went above and beyond to contact the medical examiner to obtain my son's blood so we could run another genetic panel after my youngest was tested again after his brother's passing and a new gene was discovered. Corey has been my support and my boy's advocate during our hard journey. She has been there for every appointment, every surgery, every blood draw, every procedure, every waiting room, every hospital stay, every post op checkup. Corey has gone out of her way to help me find ways of calming down when she knows I'm spiraling. After the loss of our son, she made special arrangements for me and my husband when we brought our youngest back to TCH for a checkup; knowing how traumatic the appointment would be for us. She has helped explain medical jargon and has helped explain to the doctors our fears and worries. I could go on and on about how amazing Corey is and the things she has done not just for me, but for my family. There is truly no one I believe that is more deserving of recognition than her.
