Corey is the exemplary nurse whom all staff can look to for guidance. Corey is the first to pitch in and the last to take lunch. He is comfortable both teaching and asking when he doesn't know. Every single shift Corey goes above and beyond to ensure physicians, supporting staff, and patients feel at home at Emerus. Corey has always been a beacon of light for staff but when faced with an extremely difficult case, he shines all the brighter. I remember, on numerous particularly difficult cases, Corey maintained his calm, and reassured both staff and family. Whether it was using de-escalation techniques to calm a dangerous psychiatric patient or maintaining his calm and the calm of family members as he placed an intraosseous line on a critically ill child, Corey showed the same calm reassuring demeanor. There are numerous cases that I could recount. Corey possesses an apparently inexhaustible well of calm. I know we all like to think we're super macho tough guys who wouldn't blink at the worst - well Corey is that guy we all wish we were.
It is, of course, not enough to be calm. Corey is also a master of his trade. If there is a drug, intervention, skill, or technique within his scope of practice, Corey is not only proficient but comfortable exercising it.
Corey is not only a credit to Emerus but also to all nurses and paramedics worthy of the name.
