Corey far exceeded compassionate care and demonstrated how a single person can make an impact on a patient's and their family's life. A young patient had been admitted for bilateral PEs. The patient's condition quickly deteriorated and resulted in a cardiac arrest. The patient's family including the patient's mother and fiancé were unable to come to the hospital due to the lack of transportation during this entire event. Throughout the night, Corey made it a point to coordinate with the other staff working a way in which the family was continuously updated. At one point during the updates, the family was asked how close they were to the hospital at which point they responded back with the response that they were waiting for a bus. It was at this point that Corey coordinated with the HUC of the unit to go pick this family up so that they could be by the patient's side during this crisis. This was a true act of kindness especially during this unfortunate, stressful series of events. Corey genuinely showed compassion and thoughtfulness and demonstrated to others and the other staff members how one act of kindness can bring a little good to a bad situation. The patient did survive this initial cardiac arrest and the family was able to be involved and by the side of their loved one.
