Corey Solomon's kindness and positive attitude stood out to co-worker Dana Isaac her first day of work at Scottish Rite. Then a tech in the Emergency department, Corey helped Dana adjust after her transfer from Egleston, all while displaying a remarkable commitment to his patients and a talent for his work. "Much has changed over the intervening 20 years, including Corey obtaining his RN," wrote Dana. "But what has not changed is his kindness. He's always willing to help co-workers and patients and families any way he can."
Corey, a military veteran, brings discipline and effectiveness to everything he does. He doesn't let his precision make him impatient, however something that's not always easy in a fast-paced area like the OR, according to Dana. He still takes the time to stop and get to know each patient and family to put them at ease.
Dana shared the story of one of Corey's cancer patients, Marco, who has undergone many difficult procedures and is often in the Special Procedures Lab. Corey works to encourage Marco and has told him of his experiences as a soldier," said Dana. "Marco was rightly impressed that this American hero was his nurse." To recognize Marco's courage in his fight against cancer, Corey then gave Marco one of his own military medals. Marco's mother shared with the team that it's the boy's most prized possession.
"The impact Corey has had on this child and his family is immeasurable," wrote Dana. "It demonstrates exactly the kind of nurse and person that Corey Solomon is."
