Corrie's patient was a long-term patient of our facility, and he's been on ECMO for an extended period of time due to Covid-19 infection. Obviously, the patient was in the midst of a very serious illness, and his prognosis was poor. Our facility had just begun a music therapy program, and this patient's face lit up the minute his music therapist walked into the room each week. He particularly enjoyed jazz music, and "Fly Me to the Moon" was his favorite. As the music therapist worked with the patient to calm him and lift his mood, Corrie assisted. 

There was one particular song he requested that was unfamiliar to the music therapist, but Corrie was familiar with it and jumped into action. She and her preceptee sang the song to the patient and even threw in a few dance moves. He was delighted! Afterward, Corrie crafted a beautiful sign for his wall with the patient's favorite lyric from "Fly Me to the Moon." It reads, "Fill my heart with song. Let me sing forever more." 

This nurse has such a heart for people and for her patients. She makes a difference in the lives of both her patients and her coworkers every time she walks through the door of our unit. She has a larger-than-life, bright, and sunny personality, and she goes above and beyond every shift. Corrie embodies the kindness and human compassion exhibited by a DAISY Nurse.
