I was very frightened and had no idea what was going on. Corrin kept me calm and explained all that had happened to me. She was very comforting. I felt like l was spending time with a good friend.
I have had, unfortunately, several visits to and stays in Prince William Hospital over the last 10 years. I have met many doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers from the ER to Critical Care and Intermediate Care. My most recent admission was the most serious and terrifying to date. I had a blood clot in my small intestine that resulted in sepsis, shock, and emergency surgery. The doctors had to remove 15 feet of intestine, and I woke up afterward with a ventilator down my throat and my hands tied down to prevent me from grabbing at it and all the other tubes running in and out of me to keep me alive.

The first nurse that I saw when I became conscious was Corrin. I had only vague memories of the ER. I was very frightened and had no idea what was going on. Corrin kept me calm and explained all that had happened to me. She was very comforting. I felt like l was spending time with a good friend. She kept me from worrying about my situation by sharing her life with me. She had recently married and she showed me pictures of their wedding. She was so sweet, kind, and caring.

After the ventilator was removed, and I could talk again, we bonded over our dogs, our dislike of traffic, and where the best deals were online and around town. She was always professional, and very good at her job. Her easy manner and genuine interest always made me feel like I was in the hands of someone I'd known forever.
Nursing is a hard and demanding job, and, sometimes. patients don't make it. A few days after my surgery, I was crashing. Staff were asking my husband if I had end of life provisions. Did he want heroic measures if I coded? I can understand if Critical Care personnel don't get too close to their patients - it makes it that much harder to lose them, but Corrin was there for me and my family as if we were part of hers.

It took a few weeks, but, eventually, my health improved, and I was moved to Intermediate Care. Corrin would work a long shift in the CCU, but still make time after to visit me and check on my progress. You can really tell Corrin loves being a nurse. She puts her best into her patients, professionally and personally. All nurses should be as kind and as caring as Corrin. She was awesome.
