Even though every Nurse and CNA gave me great care, Courtnee will be a person I’ll always use as an example of why John Muir is a fantastic place to be a patient.
I was recently admitted to have a colectomy surgery. During my post-op recovery, I had the privilege of receiving care from Courtnee. Already feeling uncomfortable dealing with an ostomy bag for the first time but also being the type of person who feels guilty for asking for help, Courtnee made my stay so much better. She was extremely attentive, and before I knew I might need something, she was already a step ahead. She made sure I knew my daily plan, she always made sure my pain was under control, she was able to show me empathy, and multiple times, she got me to smile and laugh. I never felt like a patient she was responsible for but rather a friend whom she wanted to support and help get better.

During her shift with me, we were told they would be removing my Foley catheter, another first for me. Already feeling overly vulnerable, Courtnee made me feel at ease and helped me through what was probably a very simple task for her, but it was a huge, uncomfortable moment for me. Even though every Nurse and CNA gave me great care, Courtnee will be a person I’ll always use as an example of why John Muir is a fantastic place to be a patient. Not only do I know her care helped me be prepared for my discharge, but she also left me with some great recommendations to stream now that I’m home and continuing my recovery. Thank you, Courtney and the rest of the team on A3!
