Courtney gave the patient a haircut when the patient expressed their appearance was impacting their mood.
I cannot choose only one story because Courtney provides compassionate care to every patient. Therefore, I am writing about three different situations over the last two months where Courtney went above and beyond to make a difference in the patient’s day. In all these situations, the patients were/are in the hospital for longer than one month and Courtney’s actions comforted the patients by giving them a feeling of home.

In the first example, Courtney gave the patient a haircut when the patient expressed their appearance was impacting their mood.

In the second example, the patient listed some things they missed eating because the hospital does not offer them as menu items during a conversation about increasing PO intake. The next thing I see is Courtney coming up the hall with her hands full. When I asked if she needed help, Courtney replied “no, thank you. I am making them a milkshake”. She blended the ice cream and milk, which are items we stock, by hand.

In the third example, when the patient’s family arrived in the room Courtney offered and made tea/coffee for the patient and family members so they could have a nice visit. When I checked back with the patient, they stated the visit felt like tea hour at home. I cannot think of a more deserving nurse for this award.
