I have worked with Courtney for years, since she started in the emergency department. I have watched her grow. Courtney represents every positive quality in a nurse. She is always smiling, kind, and attentive. She is always willing to help, even when it’s not her task to perform. She always works with a positive attitude. She is not only a good clinical nurse, but also sees the larger picture of the patient flow and needs of our department. I have urged her for years to apply for advancement but Courtney in her humble way, always replies, “I like what I do, and I feel I have more to learn.” Trust me, she is ready for anything.

Just the other day, my patient was crashing and needed resuscitation. Courtney was there first, pressing on the chest. With every compression, gastric secretions were spraying out. Courtney just stood there, continued to do her job, not even a flinch. She will walk through fire for her patients and for her colleagues. And speaking of colleagues… the morale in the ER is not always high… we go through tough times often… Courtney is our “social coordinator”! She remembers everyone’s birthdays and arranges for outings and celebrations. She is a well rounded young woman and nurse. I cherish every day she works by my side.
