The comfort I felt in one of my worst moments, knowing my daughter had someone who knew her, her history of our last visit, and would take great care of her, was everything.
In November, my husband and I found ourselves receiving a phone call we were not expecting…our daughter was being rushed to the ED via AMR due to having multiple seizures while at her grandma’s house. We, of course, were full of worry and anxiety and did not know what to expect as she had never had seizures before. Once our daughter arrived at the Emergency Department and the team quickly got started caring for our sweet little girl, we were able to meet our nurse.
Courtney was so calm and patient with us, explaining everything that was happening and what she was doing. She showed our daughter compassion and her kind soul the entire time while caring for her. Once our daughter had awoken, she, of course, was scared of being in an unfamiliar place, and this nurse took her time with her, rubbed her hand, and tried her best to make her feel at home. She was so compassionate, and we could really tell she loved what she did and did her job well. Even the way she encouraged our daughter while she was taking her medicine, spoke to her sweetly and went above and beyond with any request or need we had. My husband and I are both previous ED nurses, and we couldn’t have asked for a better nurse for our girl.
Two months to the day later, we found ourselves in the same predicament. We found our daughter unresponsive, which then quickly shifted into her seizing again. Unfortunately, we were unable to control these at home and we rushed her back into the ED. I found myself frantic, nervous, and full of all the typical emotions while we were driving 100mph to the ED with our unresponsive daughter. I ran into triage with my daughter in my arms, scared and looking for help, and the relief I felt when I walked in to find Courtney there was indescribable. She jumped up and rushed my daughter back to a room where she quickly hooked her up, started her IV on the first attempt, and was an all-star. The comfort I felt in one of my worst moments, knowing my daughter had someone who knew her, her history of our last visit, and would take great care of her, was everything. I knew I didn’t have to start from the beginning with everything as this nurse jumped right in and reassured us.
I cannot thank her enough for what she has done for our daughter and the comfort she brought us during our visits. She is an outstanding nurse who deserves all the praise, and we believe she has a bright future ahead of her in her nursing journey. Thank you for everything.
