July 2026 Honoree
Courtney Fluharty, RN
My sister was brought to the Campbell County Health Emergency Room, as she was experiencing seizures with no explanation and no history. It was later discovered that she was pretty far along in an unknown eclamptic pregnancy.
Courtney was immediately down to the ER to jump in and offer her amazing knowledge. Courtney made our entire family feel at ease in a situation that was high-stress and nerve-racking. Courtney stayed calm the entire time and worked effortlessly to ensure my sister was receiving the absolute best care and getting everything she needed.
When it was decided to move my sister up for a C-section in the labor and delivery unit, Courtney assured my sister that she would be with her every step of the way and made sure she explained what was going on the entire time.
Courtney also made sure to answer any and all questions my mom and I had whether it was about treatment, recovery, stats, testing, or offering a light joke here and there.
When my sister was out of her C-section, Courtney made sure that she let us know that my sister's beautiful baby boy was here and that my sister did great.
While Courtney was talking us through everything, I noticed her constantly looking at my sister's stats on the monitor. At this point, Courtney noticed that my sister had no pulse or heartbeat and was unresponsive. Courtney called a code and immediately began performing CPR on my sister.
If it weren't for Courtney, the outcome of this situation could have been much different. When my sister was transported to the ICU, Courtney stayed in the room with her and made sure she knew exactly what was going on.
Courtney was such a warm and comforting presence that was much needed in this situation. Courtney then proceeded to go out to the lobby and explain step by step what was going on.
To say that Courtney was a gift from above is an understatement. The compassion, care, knowledge, and skills she shared to make this situation turn out the way it did were absolutely amazing.
Anyone who crosses paths with Courtney should consider themselves blessed beyond measure!
