I want to recognize Courtney for the compassion she demonstrated to a patient and his family. The parents of a young man, autistic and developmentally delayed, decided to donate his organs to Gift of Life after CPR and prolonged downtime from seizures. The last night this young man was on the unit, Courtney encouraged his parents to have alone time with him. The mother described how she loved to cuddle with him and would, "love one more time to cuddle with him". Courtney made that happen by pulling him over to one side of the bed, machines and all and allowed his mother to cuddle beside him while his father read him a story. The following day was the Honors Walk with Gift of Life. After hugging his mother, she repeated the story of how Courtney made this precious moment happen for her and her son and was so grateful.
