A Police Sergeant was brutally attacked while working undercover on a case. This Sergeant is a beloved member of the FCPS (Fort Collins Police Services) family with years of service to his community and has a beautiful family of his own. This event and the days that followed were extremely traumatizing for everyone who was directly involved in the incident as well as those on shift who heard the radio traffic that night.

Suddenly, an entire group of people who are normally calm, in control of their situation, and comfortable under stress were thrown into uncertainty and fear for their brother in blue. Courtney was the Sergeant’s Nurse for the first three days of his long stretch in the ICU. We are so incredibly grateful to Courtney and her culturally competent care. The situation was complex: there was an on-duty Officer for security at the Sergeant’s door, multiple family members frantic to help, and his Blue Family always waiting in the wings. She navigated this with grace all while taking life-saving measures as the Sergeant was frequently unstable.

There was no one who connected with the Sergeant’s wife like Courtney. She truly felt confident in Sergeant’s care and because of this was able to rest and be with her children more frequently. We thank Courtney for her professionalism and compassion.
