Courtney Maxwell, RN
Courtney is the most selfless person you will ever meet. She is a true beacon of nursing excellence, defined by her "never say it’s not my job" attitude and a heart that consistently puts everyone else- patients and peers before herself.
One specific moment in MRI that truly defines her impact is when the department called her to be we noticed a patient (who was not even assigned to her) beginning to desaturate and show signs of a stroke, she didn't hesitate. Courtney immediately ran to assist with vitals. She maintained a calm presence amid the chaos. Her rapid intervention ensured the patient was stabilized and moved to the ER, potentially reducing life-altering residual symptoms.
Her true character shines brightest in the most difficult moments. Recently, Courtney was the first to respond when a patient in the restroom suddenly stopped breathing. Without a thought for herself, she ran into the room and immediately began CPR. Even while covered in the patient’s blood, she fought with everything she had to save them.
It became clear the patient would not make it; she did not walk away to process her own trauma. Instead, she stayed with the patient until emergency services arrived, and then—despite the exhaustion and the weight of the situation she found the strength to comfort her fellow team members who were devastated by the loss.
Whether Courtney is saving a life in MRI or providing a shoulder to cry on after a loss, she is a pillar of strength. She treats every patient with dignity and every coworker with genuine love. She is more than a nurse; she is a hero, and she is profoundly deserving of the DAISY Award.
