Courtney took it upon herself to go out and get Olive Garden spaghetti for the patient. She sat with him and fed him the spaghetti and she said the patient ate just about everything.
I have been training as an RN here on the surgical floor for a couple of days now. Today, Courtney has taken a lot of her time just sitting with her patient because he did not want to be left alone. The patient woke up multiple times and looked around for her and would say "Oh, I just wanted to make sure you're still with me." The patient had also talked about spaghetti for hours. The patient had not eaten much of anything the past couple of days and after talking about spaghetti all morning, she asked the kitchen if they had any spaghetti. They said no they didn't have any. So, Courtney took it upon herself to go out and get Olive Garden spaghetti for the patient. She sat with him and fed him the spaghetti and she said the patient ate just about everything. Me being new here, that is something so touching to me. I want to be a nurse like that someday, and I am so thankful I get to be a part of this team of awesome nurses! I can only hope that when the time comes and my family members or myself are in the hospital, we are treated so kindly and feel so loved. I'm so happy I was able to witness this sweet act of kindness.

The patient is an AMS patient we had on the floor for a while that Courtney went above and beyond for, even though the day was very busy. She personally made time to give him a bed bath and shave. She noticed he was lonely, so she spent all her time charting in his room, and frequently went into his room to just sit with him and chat. The patient wouldn't eat much so Courtney found out he loved spaghetti. The kitchen didn't have any so she ordered him some from Olive Garden. She was caring and truly went far past standard care for him.
