October 2019 Honoree
Courtney Miles, RN
After a busy Saturday in the hospital, I walked past Courtney in the hallway, and she was visibly frazzled from the long and taxing day. She looked about ready to leave, when she crossed paths with a young and hungry boy, who didn’t speak the same language. I thought it was heartwarming that Courtney took the extra time to set her belongings down and kneel at eye level with this child to make sense of what he needed. He was hungry and the cafeteria was closed. Courtney took this young, autistic boy by the hand and led him to the Café on the Go. She bought this child, a Sprite Zero, beef, jerky, Cool Ranch Doritos, and a ham sandwich with her own money. Needless to say, this young boy was very content with his situation. Courtney demonstrated compassion, caring, and selflessness by putting this young boy first.
Thank you, Courtney, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
