She used great communication with the other healthcare professionals, the patient’s family, and me as a student. She always made sure she advocated for her patients during rounds and communicated with updates throughout the day.
Courtney was my preceptor these past 5 weeks for my externship on the NICU and she took me under her wing to teach and show me so many skills. Courtney is one of the best nurses that I have ever gotten to work with because of her level of care for her patients and overall just how amazing of a person she is. I truly think I got to learn from the best these past 5 weeks and I couldn’t be more thankful. Not only was Courtney my preceptor but she was also an amazing friend to me.
Some things I learned and took away from my time with Courtney were:
1. She always went the extra mile for her patients and their families. She always made sure every little detail was taken care of and that the patient was cared for beyond extra measure.
2. She always addressed and answered all the parents' questions and concerns and if she didn’t know the answer she went to go find it.
3: She was always helping other nurses in our pod with tasks and getting things they needed if we were not busy. That was one of my favorite things about working in the pods and on the NICU west 2 unit was everyone was so helpful to one another.
4. She used great communication with the other healthcare professionals, the patient’s family, and me as a student. She always made sure she advocated for her patients during rounds and communicated with updates throughout the day.
5: She always did such a good job of explaining things to me and going into detail about why we do certain skills in certain ways and at certain times and she helped me to gain a better understanding and skills of assessing our patients, doing cares for them, transporting them, feeding them, and everything else in between.
I have learned so much from Courtney, everything from CHOP as a hospital, the NICU, skills and assessments, different diagnoses, and how to overall be an amazing nurse. I have been in awe of how extraordinary Courtney’s care for her patients has been and how well she treats and helps out all of the other nurses. I couldn’t have been more grateful to have learned from and gotten to work with Courtney over the past five weeks! I am sad to be leaving, but I know I will be able to use everything Courtney has taught me and apply it to my future as a nurse.
