I hope my daughter has the same work ethic, passion, commitment, and empathy as Courtney. I'm so grateful to have met Courtney and had her as a vital person, ensuring my daughter had the best possible outcomes.
After 29 weeks of juggling a high-risk pregnancy, rare kidney disease diagnosis, and other health complications, I was admitted to the antepartum unit at First Hill several times; the final time I spent nearly a month in antepartum during one of the scariest and most vulnerable times of my life. I'm 24 years old and a first-time mom. I had no idea what to expect, and I was terrified for my health and my baby’s health. Courtney had been my nurse on previous 24-hour admissions and was assigned to me for my first day of my extended stay. Seeing a familiar face made all the difference that day. I requested her as my primary nurse because I knew I would be in good hands.
Throughout my stay, Courtney was my saving grace. She treated me like a normal person; we laughed and joked and got through the hard days as a team. Courtney never hesitated to make sure my care needs were met and questions were answered. She changed out my IVs and took on other tedious or time-consuming tasks with no hesitation. She consistently advocated for me when I was unsure of what was going on. When my care was lacking or missing pieces, she stepped in and made sure issues were addressed promptly as well. She was committed to making sure I had positive moments in each day, and I was taking care of myself while being admitted long term. I'm confident that without Courtney on my care team, my baby and I would not have had the outcome we did. Countless injections, medications, and monitoring sessions were done to ensure we were able to make it as far as possible before delivering at 32 weeks.
The cherry on top of my stay was that my daughter was born on Courtney's birthday! She mentioned that was a first, and I'm honored. I hope my daughter has the same work ethic, passion, commitment, and empathy as Courtney. I'm so grateful to have met Courtney and had her as a vital person, ensuring my daughter had the best possible outcomes. My daughter is currently thriving in the NICU and has been on room air since birth, beating the odds. I owe Courtney so much more than words can describe for getting me through my hospital stay, but she is an incredible nurse, and I can't thank her enough.
