As a colleague of Courtney's for several years now, I have witnessed her provide patients with care above and beyond on more occasions than I can count. She cares for the patients in clinic as if they were family, exercising the best practices while keeping a smile on her face and an encouraging tone to her voice. She is also the Nurse Coordinator, a role that has her serving as a liaison between our clinical team, the newborn screening lab, primary care physicians, and families of newborn babies. While she treats all entities with respect, the kindness and understanding she shows families when calling to give them the results of their baby's abnormal newborn screen are unmatched. She calmly and clearly explains results, gives the family a plan, and schedules their follow-up for further evaluation and counseling on a potential diagnosis. For many of these families, this is a life-changing moment, and she understands the weight of the situation and approaches it with the respect and care it deserves. As if exemplary patient care wasn't enough, Courtney is the nurse whom everyone in our department recognizes as being one of the best. Colleagues seek her out for help for this reason- they know she will get the job done efficiently and correctly. She is a wonderful nurse and we are so very fortunate to have her as a team member and friend here on our team.
