Courtney was assigned to care for a patient in hospice care and helped ensure their comfort and dignity in the end of their life. The patient began the shift uncomfortably and restless, and with that, the patient's family, too, was uncomfortable. Once Courtney assessed the situation, she advocated for the patient to get the medication and care they needed to be at rest. When the patient was going to be transferred to another unit, Courtney identified that the patient might not make it much longer and that the transfer would be a disruption in peaceful passing. Ultimately, the patient passed into Courtney's care and did not transfer to another unit. The family appreciated this sincere effort to care for their mother, and they, too, could feel at ease in her care.
