He made them feel important and cared for and heard and seen. They were people, not just a room number.
My father-in-law was admitted to the hospital with newly diagnosed metastatic cancer. We received excellent care in the hospital, but CJ went above and beyond in our interaction with him. He performed tasks that were not his responsibility. Yet, he acted like it was no problem at all to be handling these extra duties. (The IV pump was alarming - he went to get a flush to stop the pump from beeping. My father-in-law was complaining his leg hurt - he said, "Let me check it for you." My father-in-law was in pain - he was empathetic. CJ also assisted in helping find placement at an assisted living center - he made the call himself because the social worker/case management hadn't contacted us yet.) My mother-in-law said she would tour the facility right away. He told her no rush, like... "we got you." He made them feel important and cared for and heard and seen. They were people, not just a room number. When he left, he gave us his cell number in case we needed him. He made this emotional time more bearable. He was born for this job. There's no way anyone could be more compassionate. He deserves recognition, and we are eternally grateful.
