My dad was admitted to St. Alexius Medical Center 3rd Floor ICU. Cris was his nurse on admission. My dad was in critical condition. His whole body was cold, nailbeds were blue, blood pressure and oxygen saturation were also low. He was restless and confused. He kept on removing his oxygen, attempted to get out of bed and complained of feeling hungry and we attempted to give him juice but he couldn't tolerate it.
For 12 hours of Cris' shift, she barely left my dad's side. Because of his low blood pressure, different blood pressure medications were started and vital signs were closely monitored. As the day went on, Dad's condition was deteriorating. Blood pressure medications were maxed out and all options were done. Cris called the doctor to inform him of what was going on. The doctor called the cardiologist on call, he talked to Cris and was updated on Dad's condition. We knew that he had fluid around his heart. The cardiologist came to the hospital, stayed at Dad's bedside, explained to us what was being and going to be done. While waiting for the lab results, my dad was giving up. The cardiologist decided to bring Dad to the cath lab to drain the fluid. He told us not to cry. The procedure lasted for 1 hour from 10 pm to 11 pm and all went well. Our Dad's heart started to pump much better and his vital signs started to stabilize.
It was a miracle that our dad got to live his life again. My family and I were so astonished and thankful to the staff for taking the time to help our dad, but we are most thankful to Nurse Cris. If it was not for Cris and her quick thinking that day, our dad would not be here today living his second miracle and fulfilling the mission that God wants him to. My dad could not thank the staff enough especially Cris for her outstanding nursing skills.
If it was not for her outstanding nursing skills and her quick thinking, our dad would not be alive today, recovering from what could have been the end. Our dad can live his life again with a second miracle in the books. Thank you, Cris, for taking care of our dad and being there for him during that time. You are a DAISY Nurse for your outstanding nursing skills, hard work, compassion, and dedication to your patient.
