She gave me the compassion and a hand to squeeze when I needed it.
I am nominating Cristin and Amy for The DAISY Award because during my care, they both exemplified every component of what a DAISY Award encompasses. My husband and I were headed to the hospital anticipating the birth of our third baby, when she decided she didn’t want to wait until we arrived to the LDRP unit. Our baby was born just a few moments before pulling into the hospital entrance. With a quick heads-up prior that we were on our way, Cristin and Amy were there waiting for us. Both were prepared with supplies for a birth, but didn’t know I had the baby until Amy opened our vehicle door. Without a single moment of delay, Cristin and Amy worked seamlessly as though they routinely encounter this situation daily. Amy naturally assumed the role to care for baby, wrapping her up and holding her tight to get her to the warm labor and delivery unit. Cristin helped me out of the vehicle and we followed right behind. She got me up to my room and proceeded to be right by my side for the duration of my delivery recovery. She gave me the compassion and a hand to squeeze when I needed it. Both made sure to incorporate and support my husband in the midst of the chaos. They worked diligently with the team to ensure both my baby and I were healthy. Their expertise, composure, experience, compassion, and collaboration with the rest of the team were all equally demonstrated that early morning. The moment I saw them as we pulled up (and from personally knowing them as a fellow RN) I felt instant relief and peace knowing that my daughter and I were in exceptional hands. It takes a special person to be a nurse, but it takes an extraordinary person to be a skilled labor and delivery nurse and being prepared for anything – baby and all. My husband, myself, and our sweet baby girl thank you for all that you did and all that you do.
