On Monday Cristina Perez-Uceda went above and beyond to show her commitment to Children's National and her compassion to make sure our patients receive care. Cristina Perez is the Team Lead at the Montgomery County Ambulatory Surgery Center (MC ASC). She was in the charge nurse role due to short staffing at MC ASC. She was helping to set up rooms, turn over rooms, and provide breaks to the OR Team. A call came in from Prince George's ASC with information that the OR nurse scheduled for work had not arrived and was unable to come to work. Cases were scheduled to start in less than a minute. Cristina overheard the manager talking to the PG ASC and offered to drive straight there to do the cases. Not only did Cristina get to the PG ASC within 45 minutes, she took an OR that started 1 hour behind schedule to finishing 45 minutes ahead of schedule; all 7 cases scheduled were completed. Her efforts prevented cases from being canceled. However, that is not all, after completing those 7 cases she immediately returned to the MC ASC and gave breaks to the OR Team at that site and helped them with completing their cases. Cristina's compassion for the patients, preventing their cases from being canceled, and her compassion for her team at MC ASC to return and provide them breaks show just how amazing of a nurse Cristina really is.
