I am writing this nomination as a family member of a patient, but I am also an RN on 4-1200, where I have had the privilege of working alongside Cristy for many years.

My father-in-law received the devastating news that his CMML had progressed to AML. With a background in oncology, Cristy was my go-to person for questions and support. When we learned there were no more treatment options and he was admitted for end-of-life care, I knew that was exactly where he needed to be.

Walking onto the unit as a family member felt very different than arriving for a shift. All of the staff on the unit were wonderful, but Cristy went above and beyond. She met each member of our family exactly where they were during this incredibly difficult time.

She knew when my mother-in-law needed to step away and care for herself, and she gently encouraged her to do so. She knew that my husband likes to understand the "why" behind things, and she explained everything to him with clarity and patience. She recognized when my sister-in-law simply needed a kind, comforting presence at the bedside.

She also knew that I needed to be a family member—not a nurse.

While caring for all of us, Cristy never lost sight of my father-in-law. Through her knowledge, exceptional assessment skills, and unwavering advocacy, she ensured that his death was peaceful and surrounded by love and family.

I never wanted to experience 4-1200 as a family member, but I always knew that if I did, I would want Cristy to be the bedside nurse.

Working alongside her, I have always been amazed by her knowledge and compassion. Experiencing that same care firsthand has left me speechless. Our family will forever be grateful for her presence during one of the most difficult times of our lives.

She has made me believe that there truly are angels on earth, and Cristy is one of them.
