The Critical Care Team was chosen from seven nominations by our Nursing Advocacy Committee for showing compassion to a terminally ill patient and his wife. As the team cared for this patient, they learned that their 64th wedding anniversary was approaching in a couple of days. The staff went into action, and when the wife arrived on their anniversary day, she found her husband's room was decorated for the occasion. They also brought in flowers, a cake and other refreshments in celebration of the anniversary. The wife and family were overjoyed with what the staff had done despite the inevitable that they were facing. The display of compassion for the family embodies the true spirit of the DAISY Award.
