I wanted to tell you about an extraordinary nurse whom I have the pleasure of working with. She regularly works as a charge nurse, and is caring, kind, and actively works to ensure that her fellow nurses and patients are taken care of. She is giving of her time and knowledge and is always willing to help. Her name is Crystal Barrett, RN on 3 West.
Crystal was recently charge nurse when I had a busy hectic day. She frequently checked in with me to see how she could help make things better for me, and she worked hard to help me catch up. She helped me pass medications, helped me untangle a difficult situation with a patient that needed to be addressed. I always rest easy when Crystal is my charge nurse as I know she has my back.
We often have patients who are here on the unit for several weeks. I've seen Crystal bring these patients art supplies, flowers, nail polish, and other things to help them pass their time while here in the hospital. She pays for these things with her own money. Crystal makes or buys food to share with the staff. She truly cares about others and does everything she can to make their day a little easier.
Crystal has a way of talking to patients that helps put them at ease and know that they are being looked after and cared for. If a family has a question or a concern, she is there to help them and reassure them that their loved one is getting the care he or she needs.
Crystal is a true gem and she makes 3 West a great place to work.
