Patients don't always remember their perioperative nurses, due to the nature of anesthesia. However, these nurses often play some of the most critical roles in shaping the patient's care and ensuring safety. Crystal Miller is no different. The bit that stands out is her willingness to dive into unit improvement projects to impact the patient experience. Crystal was the foundational push for our door to discharge project and became a Cerner expert to work through pain reassessment documentation. She continues to engage her peers in these projects and does this in such a caring and friendly way. She is the first to stop the line when there is a practice gap and sets an example for all PACU nurses. Outside of these duties at work, she is dedicated to her professional practice and shares what she learns from ASPAN and maintains her clinical ladder. She has also taken on additional duties as a champion for our transgender and gender diverse patients. This is simply another way that she advocates daily for all patients and exemplifies DEI best practices. She is truly a joy to work with and spreads that joy to every patient under her care.
