For her ability to inspire, prepare, and elevate the nursing profession, Crystal Spiers truly represents the very best of what a nursing educator can be.
I am honored to nominate Crystal Spiers for the Nurse Educator Award in recognition of her exceptional impact on nursing education across our maternal-child service lines.
Crystal exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding nursing educator. Through her empathy, compassion, and genuine dedication to supporting nurses, she creates a safe and engaging learning environment where staff feel encouraged to ask questions, strengthen their skills, and grow professionally. Her approachable teaching style and strong communication skills allow her to translate complex clinical concepts into meaningful, practical learning experiences.
Crystal also serves as a powerful role model and mentor. She leads by example, fostering confidence, professionalism, and a commitment to lifelong learning among the nurses she supports. Her ability to build collaborative relationships across departments has strengthened both education and patient care throughout our organization.
A recent example of Crystal’s innovation and commitment to staff preparedness highlights her extraordinary impact. Recognizing that teams in non-obstetric settings may face rare but critical obstetric emergencies, she developed simulation scenarios and targeted education for the free-standing emergency department in Colonial Heights and the emergency department in Emporia. These simulations prepared teams to confidently manage unexpected deliveries, including preterm births, in environments where such events are uncommon but high-risk.
The feedback from leadership in Emporia was remarkable, describing Crystal’s program as the best education they had experienced. Through her work, she not only improved clinical readiness but also instilled confidence in teams who may one day be called upon to care for mothers and newborns in urgent situations.
Crystal consistently demonstrates adaptability, innovation, and a deep commitment to developing nurses. Her passion for education is evident in every interaction, and the impact of her work is felt across departments and ultimately in the care provided to patients and families, extending far beyond the classroom or simulation lab. Through her compassion, innovation, and commitment to excellence in nursing education, she is shaping confident nurses who are better prepared to care for mothers, newborns, and families in critical moments. The knowledge she shares today strengthens the care delivered tomorrow. For her ability to inspire, prepare, and elevate the nursing profession, Crystal Spiers truly represents the very best of what a nursing educator can be.
