Our family would like to thank Cyndy Stevens for using her special way of communicating and administering care through words and songs with and our special needs daughter. Cyndy cared for D during her recent hospital stay. Her care was instrumental in D's recovery.
Our daughter is mentally retarded with a 4-year old personality. She was hospitalized and placed in for kidney stones, urinary tract infection, and a bed sore. Our daughter has been losing her mobility and cannot move her legs or arms and speaks and communicates with very few words.
D's constant companion and friend is Coco, a multi-color Ty Beanie cat. D takes Coco everywhere. D also loves music, especially Christian music.
Cyndy spoke with D at her level of intelligence while providing excellent nursing care. She brought out D's personality by singing Sunday School songs with her, such as He's Got The Whole World In His Hands, Jesus Loves Me, This Little Light of Mine, This Is The Day, and many others. Additionally, she communicated with D by speaking to her like her cat to get D to take her medicine and cooperate with other procedures. She built up a strong trust with D and treated her with respect and dignity in spite of D's limitations. D's joy in singing became contagious with many other staff members.
Cyndy reduced our anxiety by providing clinical expertise with compassion giving our family assurance and confidence that D was getting the best possible care.
