Cynthia Bastien, RN
Cynthia is a genuine patient advocate who demonstrates immense empathy and goes the extra mile to get to know me beyond just our MRN number.
I came up from the ED to this floor with no information. Cynthia was one of my nurses, and she made me feel comfortable.
When educating me, her patient teaching was direct and easy to hear. Patients love when she doesn't have the answers; she has a direct way to get them. She will call around to make sure she has all the information and answers before she comes and explains it.
Cynthia had the time and patience to hear me. She was my nurse the second evening. I had someone on my side willing to advocate for my treatment and to get answers. She has made sure that a PIP I didn't feel comfortable with was removed and has worked with and contacted the people involved.
Nurses like Cynthia are rare. She has immense kindness and empathy, all while possessing the ability to think and to know what is in the patient's best interest. She is a well-rounded nurse with strong patient teaching skills, something that nurses seem to lack these days. This is refreshing and helped me feel safe in her care.
Cynthia makes you feel cared about and listened to. I felt heard and confident about sharing and discussing things. She helped me become the best version of myself and make some things happen in care.
She deserves to be acknowledged, celebrated, and recognized as someone whom other nurses should strive to be like.
