Cynthia was caring for a patient on the oncology floor.  The patient was a survivor of breast and cervical cancer.  During this stay, she has been diagnosed with bone cancer.  Cynthia spent time with the patient talking about her current life changes and how she would be able to continue the fight.  Cynthia told me that the patient's positive attitude inspired her so much she was interested in helping her share her story - the patient had expressed this wish.  Cynthia approached the case manager to inquire about local support groups for this patient.  She stayed with her after her time to do this.  Case management did not have any knowledge of the groups for this type of cancer so they reached out to find out what they could and went to see the patient for further follow-up.  By taking this responsibility seriously, Cynthia was able to help her patient and bring to light a lack of available services to case management.
