I was involved in an emergent Pediatric Ex-lap case with General Surgery that morphed into a Cardio Thoracic case. The Cardio Thoracic team is a small specialized group that works on particular cases in the Operating Room, most of which the rest of the staff never end up seeing. It was during the CT portion of the case where the patient would need to be put on pump, not something that either I nor the scrub technician were very familiar with. When learning of the plan to go on pump, I went to look for any team members available to help in setting up and getting prepared. Low and behold there she was, Cindy Godowski, the CT team lead, sitting in the office! I asked if she was there for me, as it was about 730pm and not within her normal hours to be at work. Her response was "I don't know why I am still here", meaning that she probably stayed late to do some extra work. I explained to her our team's plan and without any hesitation, Cindy shot up from her seat and came hastily into our OR suite to make sure we were well prepared. She not only helped us set up but she stayed for the majority of the case. Due to her efforts, the case went smoothly.
Cindy is an enormous asset to not only the CT team but to the entire Operating Room. She helps out all coworkers selflessly and is always more than willing to go above and beyond to share her knowledge.
