Cindy was there to console, comfort, and play - she even sang to them to help them fall asleep.
We recently had a pair of siblings admitted for observation after being involved in a motor vehicle crash with their parents and another family member. The siblings came to our unit together without any family at the bedside. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the sibling patients were alone in a strange place without anyone to comfort them. This nurse immediately made herself available at the bedside of both patients interacting with them. The girls were happiest with each other nearby and our team did our best to make sure they were entertained. This nurse was there to console, comfort, and play - she even sang to them to help them fall asleep. The older sibling was visibly affected by the crash the most and was very tearful. This nurse sat and listened to the patient’s feelings and did her best to comfort the patient. I have witnessed much compassion from many different team members over my time here, but never in such a way as this nurse showed this day. She was available the whole shift and into the next for them at the bedside.
