I wanted to tell you about my experience with Cynthia yesterday. It was truly one of the best days I have spent in the last 1 1/2 years of battling ovarian cancer. This was my second gamma knife surgery in a month and I was filled with dread of not only the reality of what was to come (that equipment is almost barbaric) but that this might be an otherwise futile exercise fighting this serious disease. But the minute Cynthia entered my room, things changed. She brought sunshine and hope with her. Cynthia made an otherwise grueling ordeal into almost a holiday. She is not only a highly trained professional but she went beyond the usual by bringing humility, grace, and humor every time she walked in the room. She made me laugh and made me physically and emotionally comfortable while getting her job done. I have been attended by scores and scores of nurses in the last many years in almost as many institutions and I can say with some authority that she is really something special. She makes everyone else at Cleveland Clinic better for what she brings to her profession.
