On behalf of my daughter and myself, I would like to nominate Cynthia Ponce from the stroke unit for the Daisy Award for the exceptional care and compassion she showed my daughter, who had recently suffered a stroke shortly after giving birth. My daughter was unable to care for herself due to her condition, and Cynthia went above and beyond to support her during this incredibly challenging time. Recognizing my daughter’s need for dignity and comfort, Cynthia coordinated with physical therapy to arrange for a shower chair, allowing her to have an actual shower rather than just a bed bath. This thoughtful effort made an enormous difference in my daughter’s sense of well-being and recovery. Cynthia also provided assistance with pumping, understanding the importance of maintaining my daughter’s connection with her newborn. She prioritized skin-to-skin contact, facilitating a vital bonding experience between my daughter and her baby. Cynthia didn’t just perform her duties; she took the time to listen, address my daughter’s concerns, and make her feel genuinely cared for. Her kindness, professionalism, and compassion were a source of immense support during a vulnerable time for our family. Cynthia exemplifies what it means to be a nurse, and we are incredibly grateful for her.
