Cynthia is always compassionate and detailed in providing care to the veterans she serves. I witnessed Cynthia call a veteran that she had provided service to the previous day. Cynthia called the veteran in an effort to take an assessment of any side effects from the chemotherapy that may have been experienced overnight, understanding of when to take prn/as needed medications for side effects, and verify understanding of when to call the clinic for assistance or seek emergency assistance. The veteran required some educational reinforcement and further conveyed to Cynthia that he had anxiety while waiting for the extended period, and it caused it to heighten. Cynthia took the initiative to collaborate with the oncologist and veteran to have lab work taken the day prior to the appointment so that when the veteran arrives on the day of treatment, medications could be available in a timely manner without delay. The veteran agreed with the plan and praised the team for its excellence in service.
